Frequently asked questions about Ombre Brows
What are Ombre Brows?
Ombré brows is a cosmetic tattoo that mimics the appearance of eyebrow makeup. Using a machine, the brow is shaded darker at the tail and lighter at the front, creating an ombré effect.
What is the difference between Microblading and Ombré Brows?
Microblading: ideal for normal to dry skin. It is done manually with a blade. The technician scrapes an ink blade on your forehead to deposit the ink. Microblading can last up to 6 months. Touch-ups are more frequent. This technique mimics streaks of hair, which eventually blur over time. Ideal for normal to dry skin.
Ombré Brows: Ideal for all skin types, even oily skin. A machine is used to deposit ink on the top layer of the skin. Ombré Brows can last up to 3 years or more. This technique mimics a powder-filled finish. This technique is also the best for covering up old brow tattoos or microblading. Ideal for all skin types.
All cosmetic tattoos require 2 sessions to see true final results.
How long does Ombré Brows last?
Ombré brows typically last 2-3 years, depending on your lifestyle, skin type, and immediate / long-term aftercare. This procedure IS a tattoo and IS permanent. Some label it semi-permanent, but technically it’s still permanent. The label “semi-permanent” is because, unlike traditional tattoos and their ink, cosmetic tattoos do not implant as deeply into the layers of the skin and the ink fades over time. It will never completely fade, there will still be a “shadow” of residual pigment. Your brows will never look like virgin brows again.
Does the Ombré Brows procedure hurt?
Everyone has a different level of sensitivity. Topical anesthetics are used before and during the procedure to minimize discomfort.
Anesthetics remove 85-99% of the pain, but again, this is a tattoo so some pain is expected.
How long does the Ombré Brow procedure take?
The entire process from start to finish can take 2-3 hours.
How often do I need a touch-up?
Ombré Brows is a two-step procedure (initial touch-up + required).
The Required Touch-Up is done a few weeks after the initial appointment.
After the Required Retouch, you may only need to return once a year for a Color Boost.
I got my eyebrows done with someone else. Can you touch it up?
No. I do not retouch the work of another artist. That will be considered a Concealment / Correction and will be charged as such.
What can I expect during my appointment?
1. Complete the paperwork; consent / release agreement
2. Consult, discuss goals, answer questions
3. Take before photos
4. Pre- draw the eyebrows (I will not tattoo until I am 100% satisfied with the design)
5. Contour the shape, then apply numbing cream
6. Shading
7. Take post photos
8. Aftercare instructions, and voila!
How long does the healing process of Ombré Brows take?
The healing process will vary from one to another. No two people heal exactly the same due to skin type, lifestyle, diet, health, aftercare, etc. from each person. That being said, the approximate healing time is usually 7 to 14 days. The scab should completely shed within 14 days, however, keep in mind that it can take 4-8 weeks for the deeper layers of the skin to heal completely. During this time, the skin is still regenerating, which means that real results may not be seen for up to 1.5-2 months. Mature, damaged or generally not in the best condition or well cared for skin (porous, rough, textured, acne, etc.) may take longer to heal or may not heal as well.
During the healing process, it is normal to go through a variety of emotions. Here’s a rough timeline of what to expect on a day-to-day basis.
Day 1: They are a bit sassy and vibrant, but I love my brows!
Day 2-4: They look very dark … What did I do to myself ?!
Day 5-7: My eyebrows are scabbed and itchy! I look crazy!
Day 8-10: Why does my color look so light?
Day 14-28: The color is coming back up, a little uneven, but now I really like them.
Day 45-60 (after required touch-up): OMG I love my brows! I save so much time every day! Why didn’t I do this sooner ?!
Will my eyebrow hairs be removed for the procedure?
Yes, but only outside of the brow design. Any hair within the designed shape is left alone and will not be removed.
